Getting Started

Introduction

metaio Creator 2.5 is a very easy to use Augmented Reality authoring tool that allows the creation of Augmented Reality scenarios based on the latest tracking technology with all kinds of content and deployment options.

It allows an easy configuration of all related tasks and seamlessly connects to the metaio Cloud.

If you are using the metaio Creator 1.X, please have a look at the documentation and tutorials on docs.metaio.com.

You can also download the demoversion or purchase a full license of metaio Creator 1.X.

In contrast to existing tools, data import the configuration and the deployment is made easy. Create your AR scenario once and deploy to multiple platforms. By using the metaio Cloud in the backend it takes care of

intelligently balancing and managing your Augmented Reality scenario even when delivering it to thousands of users. In addition to that you can either host your content on your own servers or on metaio Cloud servers.

At the moment the following deployment/delivery options are supported:

the free metaio Cloud App junaio

your own metaio Cloud App (iOS, Android)

your own, native App using the integrated AREL export

With creator being based on AREL even more deployment options are soon made to be available.

The new creator 2.X has a completely redesigned and easy to use user interface. It builds on top of the latest tracking technologies provided by metaio.

Supported content types:

3D content: .fbx, .dae (collada, basic functionalities), .obj and .md2

2D image content: .jpg, .png, .bmp, .bpm, .ppm, .gif

2D video content: YouTube videos, .mp4, .avi, .mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, .3g2, asf

Audio content: .mp3

Interactive buttons to open websites, start videos, play animations etc.

Social buttons to connect to Facebook, Twitter, Google+

Instant preview of any loaded content

Automatic content conversion e.g. of 2D videos to the best format for the targeted deployment platform

System requirements

To run the metaio Creator 2.5 on your system, we recommend:

Operating System: Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) OR Mac OS X 10.7, 10.8

Dual core processor with at least 1.7 GHZ (Quad core recommended)

3D graphics card with at least OpenGL 2.0 (Windows)/OpenGL 3.5 (Mac) support

2 GB of RAM (4 GB recommended)

Please note:

The actual requirements vary with the size of the 3D-models, the required frame rates and the complexity of the AR-application.

Running the Creator inside a virtual machine (like VMware, Parallels, etc.) is not supported

In addition to the hardware requirements you need:

a free metaio Cloud account (free sign up here)

a web server that supports FTP upload and HTTP access to the uploaded files (if you want to host the content on your own server)

Windows

Installation procedure for Windows

Execute the installer file onto the PC on which the software later is to be used. The default installation destination is  C:\Program Files\metaio\Creator.

1. Start the Creator, e.g. from the Start>All programs>metaio>Creator

2. Upon first start, the software will report a missing license file. Press "Activate" in the pop-up window to continue.

3. The Creator Design Activation Wizard opens. If you have an existing connection to the internet, press "Next" to continue.

4. Copy the ticket number from the order confirmation email to the next message window and press "Next" to continue.

5. At successful activation, press "Finish" to close the Activation Wizard.

6. Press "Retry" in the initial pop-up window to register the license to the software.

7. At successful registration, metaio Creator will start.

The activation of the software license file is only required once. See below for more details on the license activation.
